Imagine You Are Driving… is a group of life-size automobile sculptures – two Hondas and two Volkswagens. The works were fabricated in aluminum plate and finished with a unique paint and assembly process. Known for his cool minimalist paintings and sculpture that are at once sexy and seemingly simple, Opie’s practice draws on a wide range of visual material. These sculptures – three-dimensional renditions of formalist paintings – reflect Opie’s fascination with the real world as well as the temptation of imaginary space.
